Anagrams is Je Crompton (saxophones, clarinet, keyboards) and JD Walsh (guitars, keyboards, electronics).
They play jazz/not jazz, ambient/not ambient, acoustic/electronic music. The duo was formed when avant-garde jazz saxophonist Je learned that his new neighbor, JD Walsh (Shy Layers, Natural Palace), was an electronic musician. Intrigued, Je suggested that they collaborate on a 7” record. The result was “Roll Call” / “Springs,” released in 2020.
During the dark days of the Covid pandemic,Je and JD continued their collaboration, trading audio files and recording enough material for a full-length album. That album was picked up by Balmat, a Barcelona label specializing in ambien music. Blue Voices was released by Balmat in early 2024.
As Brainworlds, Atlanta based guitarist Mason Brown (Maserati, Flamingo Shadow) has been employing repeating sheets of sound to delve deep into the subconscious and explore hidden relationships between the micro and macro ever since his first solo cassette release in 2008. Each album and performance, devoid of the constraints of time and gravity, float in the metaphysical realm where mind and universe coalesce.
Brainworlds’ latest track “Cistothorus Stellaris” was released in late 2025 on Georgia-native drone label Hooker Vision’s compilation of regional psychonauts dubbed Creek Drift Mosaic: A Field Guide to Southern Cosmic.
