About —
There are a handful of music documentaries out there that offer a rare glimpse into the life of an artist or band that more typical love-letter efforts would never think to even try. Grant Gee’s Meeting People is Easy is one of the best examples. Shot during Radiohead’s 1997-98 world tour in the wake of their seminal album OK Computer, Gee’s remarkable and arty effort is about the tedium of being a rock star, the cons of idol worship, and the endless marketing circus that goes along with the roller-coaster ride. This is not a journey about sex and drugs, or missing families back home, but rather the blunt truth of fame and worldwide notoriety. The joy that came with universal critical praise and chart-topping sales wears off quickly as banality sets in.
